I had the opportunity to work on this project through the American University School of Communication Washington Post Practicum. For the majority of my spring semester in my master's program, I worked with national editors at the Post to examine 2022 Republican primary races and identify candidates on the ballot that supported the "big lie."

I had the opportunity to work on this project through the American University School of Communication Washington Post Practicum. I maintained an internal database tracking charges and sentencing for suspects involved in the Capitol riots on Jan. 6. This involved sorting through court documents, and making daily updates.

Throughout my internship with The Dallas Morning News, I closely followed the fallout of the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision that overturned Roe vs. Wade. I was asked by editors to write our main bar, front page story on Roe's 50th anniversary, where I evaluated the impact of Dobbs and the future of abortion policy in the country.

Shortly into my internship with the Washington bureau of Dallas Morning News, I began tracking action outside the U.S. Supreme Court ahead of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision. I would wait outside every decision day, connecting with Texas activists. On the day the decision came out, I was prepared outside the courthouse. I frequently posted updates to Twitter and provided short video interviews for DMN Instagram stories. These all went into this story that captured the atmosphere outside the Supreme Court when Roe v. Wade was reversed.

With Texas Sen. John Cornyn at the center of the bipartisan gun law I had helped cover the political process of the talks and the bill's passage. After it was signed into law, I pitched this story to look at the provision intended to close the "boyfriend loophole" and talked to experts about its effectiveness.

This story follows up a New York Times article that revealed former Texas Gov. John Connally and Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes met with Middle Eastern leaders to persuade Iran to delay the release of hostages until after President Ronald Reagan won the 1980 election. I worked to find and interview surviving hostages to discuss their reaction to the news. To find contact information for the former hostages I used tools like Nexis.

A day before Kentucky's 2019 gubernatorial election, former President Trump held a rally to support state republicans, particularly former Gov. Matt Bevin. I was the only student journalist credentialed to cover the rally, wrote two stories covering the greater implications of the event, took photos and video and posted frequent updates on social media.

Despite the local and national moratorium on evictions during the pandemic, small communities like Frankfort, Kentucky have still seen a significant amount of evictions filed. I wrote this story as a freelance reporter and created graphics using information I obtained through FOIA requests.

For this story, I followed the political process of the PACT Act, which expands health care benefits for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. I reported on the protests happening outside the U.S. Capitol, and the action taken by lawmakers inside. Particularly I focused on the Texans driving news. Throughout this coverage, I frequently posted updates on social media so our audience could have the latest news.
